Chamber honors Colonial Life for Diversity & Inclusion Work

Colonial Life is focused on enhancing diversity and inclusion and has been recognized by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce for that work.

Colonial Life received the 2018 Impact Award for Diversity & Inclusion for going above and beyond to create a diverse work environment.

“This award means we’re on the right track to becoming the inclusive employer of choice in the Midlands,” Colonial Life Diversity and Inclusion Consultant Beth Ruffin said. “But it also means there’s more work to do to ensure employees feel like they can bring their whole selves to work.

“We want to use this award to keep the momentum going and push us to even greater work in the future.”

President and CEO Tim Arnold challenged the company’s human resources department to take a closer look at diversity and inclusion and put the resources behind the work. That includes employee resource groups focused on areas like recruiting and education and awareness – as well as specific groups like veterans, women in leadership, ethnic minorities, disabled workers and LGBTQIA+ individuals.

“We’ve got so many exciting things we’re working on this year, like our Let’s Talk session – where employees discuss issues that affect us all,” Ruffin said. “The Women in Leadership employee resource group is working on a book club, and we’ll host training around generational differences in the workplace, unconscious bias, and inclusive leadership.”
