7 things successful people do nightly

We all know the benefits of being an early riser—and the boost of productivity we can gain in the morning by not hitting the snooze button on our alarm clock. But there are things you can do each night before you go to bed that will maximize your own efficiency the next day.

Here are 7 things the most successful people do every night to get a jump on the next day.

1.Pack for the next day

Getting mentally prepared for the next day will give you a head start when you wake up in the morning. Doing something as simple as packing your bag allows you to mentally run through your day and all the things you’ll need to do.

2. Stretch

In contrast with the morning, when our joints might be a little stiff, our bodies are much more limber and warm at the end of the night. Giving them an extra little stretch is exactly what we need to wind down after a stressful day, and wake up feeling even better and more energized in the morning.

3. Read something

Whether it’s a book, a magazine, or some news articles, reading something allows our brains to process, slow down, and get quiet at the end of a busy day. Grab something to read before you hit the hay—it might even quickly lull you right to sleep.

4. Meditate

Taking time at the end of the day to meditate and reflect can be invaluable when seeking clarity of mind. Meditate for five or ten minutes without letting yourself be distracted by anything else. This will help you best prepare your mind for the coming day.

5. Unplug

Check out from social media, constant texting, or any other form of electronic connection to ground yourself before you go to bed. Knowing that you’re able to take some time for yourself—even if it’s just a couple minutes before bed—can often be enough to re-inspire you.

6. Shower or bathe

Showers and warm baths have been shown to be incredibly calming activities—ones that work best to soothe the mind in an otherwise hectic day. The nighttime cleansing ritual works for many qualified professionals, including international clothing designer Tom Ford, so give it a try and see how it works for you.

7. Make your room a haven

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary. When you set up your room in such a way that you feel relaxed sinking into the sheets, you know you’ll get a good night’s sleep. Lie down, enjoy, and wake up ready to take on the new day.
